NHP Bulldogs tie Malverne

The Island Now

The New Hyde Park Bulldogs faced off against the Malverne PAL in the Annual Mother’s Day Classic.

Malverne came out shooting, scoring first with a long outside shot that caught goalie Nick Armon by surprise. He wouldn’t be surprised again holding the Malverne attack to six goals in more than 20 shots.

Tight play kept the game 1-0 until little Mark Niewierowski woke up the Bulldog offense with his first goal of the season. That started the NHP middies and attackmen who kept shooting until the final minute.

The score was close for the duration of the game as each team continued to answer each others scores.

The game was so close the score never went more than a two-goal spread. Goal credits to Brian Hoerter [1], Chris Valentine [2], JJ Alecia [1], Mark Niewierowski [1], and a 90-yard run down the field with three successful dodges credits long-stick defenseman Charles Chiarello with his first goal of the season.

The Bulldogs attempt on an all out surge in the final two minutes to break the tie proved unsuccessful with the score ending 6-6.

In Bulldog tradition, each player presented a flower to all the mothers in attendance.

Head coach Rob Mirabile said of the game: “They played their best game yet, they are improving every day. We were up in both ground balls and shots.”

Mirabile credits several players with outstanding play “we really got a boost this week from Nick Kudtziel, Austin Shubert, and Ryan Slattery. Every boy played an important part in this game”
