NHP Giant team wins two of three

Girls Major Division

Team 2, managed by Gene Dziomba and sponsored by Giant Industrial Installations Inc., opened the season on April 13 with an exciting game which ended with Caitlyn Biggs driving in the winning run for the 11-10 win over Floral Park. The girls worked hard and learned a lot during their 11-1 loss against Franklin Square two days later and then ended the week with another nail-biting win over Garden City South 2, 6-5. NHP2 Team, managed by Paul Krische and sponsored by William A. Gross Construction Assoc. Inc.,  opened against Malvern 1 team at Whelan Park with an unreported score. NHP1 (0-0); NHP2 (2-1).

Girls Minor Division 

The two NHPLL Minor Division teams opened with a split on April 15. NHP1, sponsored by Mathnasium of NHP, had some nice pitching by Claire Mikowski, who went two innings with five strikeouts, allowing three runs and scoring a run in their 13-6 loss to Franklin Square 2 team. Pitcher Megan Bleeker of the NHP2 team, sponsored by Margaret Zadnik DDS PC, lead her team to an 8-1 win over Garden City South 2 team at Cherry Valley Field. She also had a triple on the day. NHP2 defeated Valley Stream for their second win of the week, a 6-5 victory behind Marisa Ogden, who went three innings on the hill, striking out seven with no runs allowed. Katie Hopkins lead the offense with a triple. NHP1 team next plays Franklin Square 2 Friday under the lights at Pistillo Field. NHP1 (0-1); NHP2 (2-0)

Girls Farms Instructional Division 

The two NHPLL Girls Farms Instructional Division team opened April 13 with a rain out against each other. NHP2, sponsored by The Inn at New Hyde Park, played Franklin Square 2 team on April 16 and Franklin Square 1 team at Averil Park April 18.  NHP1, sponsored by City Line Florist, played Malvern 1 Saturday, 20th at Averil Field, with no scores reported this week. Mike Daloia, manager of NHP2 team, stated they had a great game and wonderful day on the field with the eager youth of both towns. Although this division is not competitive and focuses on instruction, highlights will be submitted weekly or when received.
