COUGARS: (Coaches Scott Liewehr and David Viegas)

The Cougars continued to improve their team play with a come-from-behind win over the Bobcats, 5-4.  Down 2-0 in the first half, the Cougars clawed their way back, sparked by a beautifully placed penalty kick by Simon Thomas. The team persevered through adversity with some sensational goal tending by Chris Rogers in the first half and Ben Youfsan in the second.  Aside from the penalty kick, both Simon Thomas and Chris Rogers scored two goals apiece but the offense was supported by great offensive runs by Dantez Diaz and Leo Tching who played tirelessly all game. Alex Stoyer continued intense play at midfield, constantly hustling to the ball and finding teammates with great passes. Darsh Mirchandani and Ethan Moy played hard on both offense and defense, while Lucas Viegas anchored the defense with great play and big kicks downfield. Nico Liewehr used his speed to make some goal-saving plays on defense and to set up two goals with shots that rebounded to his teammates.

JAGUARS: (Coaches Sandra Griffin and Kieran Griffin)

The Jaguars put out a tremendous effort to hold off a very talented Fighting Tigers team to win 3-1. Once again, the duo of Caleb and Luis Maignon held the fort well defensively as Harry Acosta, Zain Begawala, Alex Fulgieri, and Dale DelloIacono showed solid running and played the midfield. Eamon Griffin tallied the hat trick to pace the offense.

BOBCATS: (Coach: Chris Bernic)

The Bobcats came out strong on Sunday taking early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Kaleb Dyasi.  Dyasi would go on to score a third and fourth goal in the second half for his third game of the season with three or more goals.  The team also got some great goalkeeping from Albert Kuo and Caleb Yu.  They were helped by solid defensive play from Om Thakur and Jason Thevarajah.  The second half featured many exciting runs in the midfield from Neel Khurana and Aidan Bernic, both of whom tested the Cougar defense time and time again.  Austin Lee and Hamza Ghani also gave a great effort despite the Bobcats coming out on the losing end by a score of 5-4.  Regardless of the score, the team put forth an incredible effort that made for a very exciting match and the boys are looking forward to next week’s game. Go Bobcats!

FIGHTING TIGERS (Coaches Kurt Anschlowar and Kevin Sequeira)

What an incredible effort the Fighting Tigers gave this Saturday, ultimately losing to the Jaguars 1-3, however. Brandon Sequeira, Lorenzo Rios, and Vincent Leva played great up front for the Tigers, while Thomas Anschlowar, Aidan Cruz, and Shreyan Biswas played a disciplined defense. Karan Arora, Parv Shah, and Will Handley took turns playing goaltender, and all were excellent.  You got to love the grit and determination of this young group of boys.

PANTHERS (Coaches Rob Honovic and Boris Ribaric)

Through hard work and determination, the Panthers came away defeating the Lions by the score of 3-0.  Sherwin Fernandes led the offensive attack, scoring the first two goals and Aiden McNeely scored the final goal in this exciting game. Thomas Honovic, Matthew Ribaric, and Sherwin Fernandez all made spectacular saves in preserving the shutout.    Liam Dempsey and Clayton Wong continued to form one of the league’s top defensive units with great positioning and determined play. Liam and Clayton also made exciting offensive runs by generating countless opportunities for the team. Vincent Sparacello and Alexander Cheung both played hard, creating many scoring chances for their teammates.  Thomas Honovic and Matthew Ribaric also played well on the field as they controlled the middle with sound playmaking.  The Panthers are enjoying a three-game winning streak and are showing great improvement week by week.

Seesaw Game has Bouncing Bobcats Over the Fearless Lions

In a game that saw many ups and downs, the BU7 Bobcats bounced past the Fearless Lions this Saturday in a 5-3 win. Matthew Yu sped into the Lions’ den on the very first offensive play, but the Lions roared back, winning a penalty kick that went just wide. In spite of valiant defense by the Ghai brothers, Armaan and Arvin, and some solid mid-fielding by Shayaan Arshad, the Lions managed to score thrice. The delayed entry of David Creary and Bobcat star Kiriakos Koutsouras gave the Bobcats a bounce in their steps. Matthew found the goal once more before Kiriakos stole the show, and the game, with a hat-trick! Bobcats appreciated guest players John Boubert and Joseph Estrella, who never failed to keep track of the extra Bobcats on the field.

New Hyde Park Wildcats TOP Soccer

Juniors:  Red Wildcats 6, Green Alligators 6.

A small but very determined group of Juniors tied today’s game 6-6.  Brandon and Bryan Cisneros each scored a goal and Lucas Lee had two beautiful goals for the Green Alligators.  Playing for the Wildcats, Christopher Menendez had a tremendous day and scored four goals while his teammate Anthony Chung demonstrated terrific dribbling skills and scored the other two goals.  With the Wildcats leading 5-3, Robert Brocchini, joined the Green Alligators with five minutes left in the game.  Robert had just finished goalie duties for the Intermediates and helped out as substitute goalie. Robert tied up the game on a breakaway and did not allow another goal.  Robert was definitely the MVP of the match.

Intermediates:  Spidermen 1, Green Hornets 1.

It was another close game by the Intermediate squad.  Both teams displayed dribbling and passing skills but the defense from either side denied the strikers their goals.  Robert Brocchini was tough as the Green Hornets goalie and defender Nick Krieger and John Bertuccio wouldn’t let any strikers escape their mighty defensive stances.  Matt Lausev was also strong in the goal for the Spidermen with Josh Hom and Sophocles Gianakis providing support as defenders.  Tied at 0-0, Green Hornet striker Daniel Menendez went to the outside and scored the only goal for the Green team.  Spiderman Chris Cooney, however, barged through the Green team defenders and scored for the Spidermen.  Both teams had an awesome game and really showed their defensive skills.

Seniors:  Green team 2, Red team 4.

The Red team dominated many parts of today’s game. David Glass led his team up and down the field and scored one of the Red team’s goals. Matthew Saraiva scored the second goal with a blistering shot at the Green team’s goalie. Sebastian Garcia was strong in goal for the Red team, allowing only 2 goals.  As Red team defenders, Adam Strominger, Harrison Stein, and James Fahey stopped many of Green team’s offensive plays. Green team striker Tim Roth scored two goals and the match was tied 2-2. Speedy Sebastian Gonzalez put the Red team up by a goal despite efforts from Green team midfielders Charles Hinz, Billy Russo and Frank LaPinta, Sebastian Gonzalez, with an assist from Mary Glass, scored the fourth goal for the Red team.  Patrick Williams, Joe Caban, Samantha Duggan and Joe Barbella (welcome to TOP Soccer) showed some great offensive plays for the Green team.
