The Island Now

The New Hyde Park U12 Girls softball team swept a doubleheader from the Long Island Crush in a showdown between the only two undefeated teams in the NJBL travel league.

NHP is now 8-0 with four games remaining.

Hickey pitched terrific in game one, a complete game win, giving up only two earned runs. Ward was brilliant in game two, striking out six of the first nine batters, in a complete game win.

Hickey paced the offense in game one as well with three singles and a run scored. Ann Grimshaw caught a doubleheader while going 4-for-8 on the day with four RBIs.

NHP took control of game one in the third inning when Hannah Arkin, Hickey, Ann Grimshaw and Maggie Donnelly had consecutive run scoring hits.

Gabby Morales worked out a walk in that inning to keep the rally going. NHP took control of game two in the third inning also. Grimshaw started the inning with a solid single followed by hits from Donnelly, Dani Giordano, Nidermaier and Felisa Bronzino, who walked and scored earlier in the game.

Sophia Jacoby had an excellent day at second base for NHP while adding a run in game one and long double in game two.
