No good letter goes unpunished

The Island Now

Poor Alan Freed. He begs to be spared another letter from an agenda driven ax grinder like Ms. Confino and what does he get? Why another letter of course.

Her letters remind of Ben Franklin’s Busybody Gadget, a series of angled mirrors, arranged so that the house occupant could see the comings and going up and down the outside street. C.S. Lewis skewered these types with his observation that, “tyranny exercised for the good of its victims is the most oppressive of all. At least the Robber Baron sleeps occasionally and his cupidity is often satiated. But those who torment us for our own good, do so relentlessly as they have the approval of a self righteous conscience.”

The hallmark of this type of persona, typified by Madame Defarge, is a sense of moral superiority which impels them to lecture and meddle; all in the name of a self defined good cause of course.

Watchword to Ms.Confino; myob.
