NOLA Night at the Landmark April 28

The Island Now

It promises be an evening of foot-stomping music steeped in the sounds of the bayou when The Subdudes and Little Toby Walker headline NOLA Night at Landmark on Main Street, Thursday, April 28, at 8 p.m.

Over the course of 25 years and 10 albums, The Subdudes have gained a national reputation.

The New Orleans-formed group plays a vibrant cauldron of sounds that stirs together meaty grooves and jazzy dynamics, soulful R&B swagger, easy vocal harmonies, cheeky rock ‘n’ roll attitude and folky social consciousness.

Led by singer/guitarist Tommy Malone and accordionist John Magnie, The Subdudes draw most of their inspiration from the sounds of their native New Orleans, blending blues, gospel, funk, and R&B with their own harmony vocals; their sound is also notable for the band’s substitution of a tambourine player, Steve Amedée,  for a drummer. Tim Cook rounds out the band on bass.

Opening this rollicking celebration of “Nawlins” style is Long Island’s own Blues Master, Little Toby Walker.  Internationally and nationally acclaimed as a roots music fingerstyle guitar wizard, Walker blends the styles of blues, ragtime, country, bluegrass, rock and old time jazz into his own unique style.

Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna and the Jefferson Airplane says “Flat out… you have to hear this great musician… I’m blown away.”
