James Foy, assistant principal of the North Side School, tendered his resignation from the East Williston School District during Thursday’s Board of Education meeting, having accepted an elementary school principal position with the Sachem Central School District.

Foy’s resignation will take effect Aug. 28, East Williston school board President Mark Kamberg said.

“We want to tank you for all your years of hard work and dedication to the North Side School,” Kamberg said. “It did not go unnoticed.”

Trustees unanimously approved Foy’s resignation. The board did not discuss its plans to hire Foy’s successor.

“This is the place everyone should want to send their students to go to school,” said Foy, who after three years with East Williston will become the principal at Grundy Avenue Elementary School in Holbrook. “They have dedicated teachers, they have dedicated administrators and proud parents. Though I’m sad to leave, I’m excited for what lies ahead for me.”

East Williston School Superintendent Elaine Kanas wished Foy luck in his new role.

“I know you’ll do a terrific job,” Kanas said.

The board also appointed several new teachers and staff members: Donna Crennan as a probationary elementary school teacher at North Side School, Melissa Flecker as a leave replacement elementary teacher at North Side, Raquel Piccirillo as a probationary teacher, Ann Simeone as a probationary teaching assistant, Joseph Virgilio as a part-time teaching assistant at Willets Road School and Lauren Shannon as a part-time substitute typist.
