Obama victory opens door to progress

The Island Now

Hooray to all you who saw through the ever-changing candidate who said whatever his audience wanted to hear on a particular occasion.

Congratulations to those who could see that Obama stuck to his altruistic aims, which had been thwarted by a cynical, self-serving Congress which ended with approval levels in single digits. Now, not saddled by the fear of losing his reelection, he can defy them, and I hope, simply stick to his guns. (Sorry, wrong word) Think “move ahead with determination”. Let’s face it, we cannot go back so let’s make up our minds to set new goals and work on what is truly constructive.

Going forward means that we must embrace the world as it is and find solutions to today’s challenges. Each of us, I truly believe, has an opportunity to face problems and choose to meet them, treating our fellows with respect, looking for what is good in them, loving our children enough to make them feel secure and setting good examples for them. We need to encourage them to do the very best they can. Above all, we must embrace ethical values.

For the most part this works if we pay attention to promoting real values. Just bemoaning what our world is like is so destructive. One day at a time, with small steps, we each can play an important part.
