One dead, four hospitalized in Northern State crash

A collision between two vehicles on the Northern State Parkway near Old Westbury on Friday night left one dead and hospitalized four others, state police said.

The victim was identified as Justin McClyment, 17, of Rosedale, who was the front passenger of a BMW that collided with a Chevrolet Malibu at around 11 p.m. Friday, according to state police.

Upon impact, the Chevrolet crossed into the westbound lanes and hit the center median before flipping over onto its roof, while the BMW struck a tree on the right shoulder of the highway, state police said.

The two occupants in the Chevrolet were transported to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset for treatment of minor injuries, state police said.

The driver and rear passenger of the BMW were taken to local, unidentified hospitals after suffering serious injuries as a result of the crash, state police said.

The accident closed the highway in both directions until just after 5 a.m. Friday, authorities said.

Police said an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
