Open air dining at Plaza Promenade

Hundreds of people dined under clear skies on Bond Street Thursday, as the Village of Great Neck Plaza Business Improvement District hosted a Promenade Night.

Local restaurants including La Rotonda, Elaine’s Bistro & Grill and the Great Neck Diner set up street-side ordering stations, and a DJ spun oldies into the evening air. The event stretched along a closed off stretch of Bond Street from Grace Avenue to North Station Plaza, where a stage was set up for a karaoke competition later that evening.

Village of Great Neck Plaza Mayor Jean Celender said the Promenade Night was a chance for residents to sample local restaurants, meet friends and have a good time.

“It’s a nice experience, especially when it’s 72 degrees and no wind. It’s perfect,” Celender said.

The event also serves another purpose – to provide a boost to the village’s economy and drive traffic to businesses.

“It’s all part of our efforts to make the downtown an exciting place for our residents,” Celender said.

The night also featured the second auditions for the Great Neck Idol karaoke competition, with the final round scheduled to take place at the 29th Annual Great Neck Plaza AutoFest and Street Festival on Sunday, Sept. 29.
