Parker Jewish earns technology award

The Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation in New Hyde Park was given the 2013 Gold Award for “Excellence in Technology” by McKnight’s Magazine last week. McKnight’s, the nation’s largest long term care industry magazine, said that Parker was on the leading edge of the movement to manage transitions of patients into and out of long term care facilities and demonstrated how technology can improve patient outcomes during the transition process.

“Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation, in collaboration with regional associations and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, has endeavored to make significant strides in adopting technologies to enhance care and care transitions,” said Michael N. Rosenblut, Parker’s president and CEO. “Our staff and clinicians utilize an electronic medical record system designed to assist in delivery and documentation of high quality care.”

Parker’s clinicians employ the Healthix Regional Health Information Exchange to gain access to patient data generated by hospitals and community providers and the software solutions of The Continuum of Care Improvement Through Information New York, that allow clinicians to be digitally connected with their counterparts at the nearby Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Since beginning this innovative project, Parker has experienced several benefits, including a reduced re-hospitalization rate.

“As the nation’s entire health care system enters an era of greater coordination, the application of technology, in tandem with effective collaboration, will unquestionably become an increasingly important factor in efficiently managing transitions into and out of long term care facilities,” Rosenblut said.
