Paying high taxes on LI a choice

The Island Now

I am writing to comment on the letter that John Messina wrote on “Obama policies explode the debt.”

John lives in East Williston, I live in Williston Park.  We all know as Nassau residents, we pay more taxes than most of the country.  My husband Bob and I moved to Williston Park in 1975

for many reasons.

Bob commuted to Manhattan for most of the years he was employed.  Like most of the area residents, he drove, took public transportation on the Long Island Railroad (and you know that isn’t cheap).

My husband and I never made anywhere near $250,000 a year in salary, but if we did, we would be glad to pay our fair share in taxes. No one is telling folks to reside in Manhattan.  That is their choice – as it was our choice to move to Long Island.

Perhaps living in Connecticut ., New Jersey, West Chester, Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, Nassau and Suffolk would be a better choice.

Living conditions would be cheaper, including housing, schools for the kids, food etc.

I don’t feel bad for the upper middle class living in Manhattan.  I should be that lucky.
