Pistol held to head of motorist in Mineola

A man pulled a semi-automatic handgun and placed it to the head of a motorist stopped at a traffic light in Mineola Tuesday night before the motorist swatted the gun away from his head and the man with the gun and a companion fled, according to Nassau County police.

Detectives said two men approached a 50-year-old old man while he was sitting in his car at the at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Horton Highway at 11:48 p.m. 

One of the men pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and placed it to the victim’s head, detectives said. The victim swatted the gun away from his head and both suspects fled the scene eastbound on Grant Avenue towards Mineola Boulevard. 

Police said no injuries were reported.

Police described the gun-wielding suspect as a lighted skinned Hispanic in his early 20s, 5-feet 8-inches tall with a medium build and short black curly hair. Police said he had a Portuguese accent and was wearing a plaid short sleeve shirt and dark pants. 

Police described the second suspect as a light-skinned Hispanic in his early 20’, 5-foot 6-inches tall, medium build, close cut blonde hair, wearing a white shirt and dark pants.
