Plandome Heights Board of Trustees approves multiple last-minute cleanup resolutions

Plandome Heights trustees approved multiple resolutions Monday, for last-minute cleanup projects around the village to be completed before the beginning of winter.

Included in the approved resolutions were renewal of a street sweeping proposal, last-minute storm drain cleaning, as well as pothole repairs, fixing broken curbs, and replacing storm drain grates.

The approved resolutions are subject to final approval of the proposals.

Trustees also discussed the renewal of their current street sweeping contract with Dejana Industries, and approved a final November sweep, with continuation of services from the spring.

“We normally do a street sweeping the weekend before Thanksgiving,” Mayor Kenneth Riscica said. “That’s the expectation of the village.”

Usually done in the spring, concerns of leaves and other blockages building up throughout the autumn months persuaded the board to explore the possibility of additional storm drain cleaning before the colder months.

“Shortly after we sweep, it’s a good idea to do the cleaning of the storm drains. With the leaves and the rain, it will accumulate, so I’m going to recommend we do a fall sweep.” Riscica said.

Also dependent on warmer weather, Riscica proposed filling potholes along Cove Drive, rebuilding a broken curb in Plandome Court, and replacing one old storm drain grate.

The village hopes to fit in these last projects before the cold weather sets in.

“I don’t know if there’s time to get quotes and get this minor fix-up work done in November,” Riscica said. “If we can I would like the authority to do that.”
