Plandome Manor eyes home rental limits

The Village of Plandome Manor is considering following the Village of Plandome’s lead and regulating the rental of homes.

Village trustees discussed language that would preclude rentals which last less than 90 days, designating such rentals as “commercial use” of the property, and subject to village regulation.

Rentals lasting 90 days or more are still considered “non-commercial”, and so remain outside of the village’s purview.

“For 90 days or more is permitted, no more than two rentals… allowed in a year. Less than 90 days is prohibited.” Village counsel Rachel Scelfo said, paraphrasing a proposed amendment aloud at the meeting.

Village officials said the language of the draft would be modeled after a law recently ratified by the neighboring Village of Plandome,

Village of Plandome Manor Mayor Barbara Donno said further investigation was required before the board could consider a vote.

The alteration to the zoning code would block the sort of weekend rentals promoted by Airbnb, a popular vacation rental website.
