Plandome Manor repeals tax cap breach law

Trustees in the Village of Plandome Manor repealed a local law on Tuesday granting the board the ability to breach the state-mandated tax cap if it needed to in formulating its 2015-16 budget.

Though Plandome Manor did not exceed the state tax cap, villages tend to repeal laws granting them the ability to breach the tax cap to maintain eligibility for various state funds that require such laws not remain active.

The law was passed following a public hearing, during which the board also approved a resolution noting that a repeal of the law would not have an adverse impact on the environment.

Plandome Manor approved a $867,379 budget in mid April that carries a $35,125 reduction in spending from 2014-15.

The village will collect $606,454 in overall taxes, up from $597,331 last year, due to a decrease in the village’s overall property tax assessment from $1,122,038 in 2014-15 to $1,078,178.
