Plandome to ban skateboarding

Bill San Antonio

Village of Plandome trustees on Monday introduced a local law that would ban skateboarding along certain roads located in the “upper” section of the village.

Village Clerk/Treasurer Elizabeth Kaye said Tuesday that the roads included in the legislation are Rockwood Road, Longridge Road, Woodedge Road, Park Woods Road and Dogwood Road.

But, she said, the law would not prohibit skateboarding throughout those roads.

The board, she said, is still working on what sections of those roads would be off-limits to skaters.

Trustees on Monday set a public hearing for the law during the board’s June 16 meeting.

In other developments:

• Trustees also approved the use of village roads for Sunday’s annual Don Scott Memorial 5K race, which will go throughout Manhasset.

• They also discussed a letter that would be sent out to residents in the coming days about a special meeting tentatively set for June 2 to discuss a major village road project, Kaye said.
