Nassau County police officers arrested a Sayville man on Tuesday who drove his car onto the Deepdale Golf Course in Manhasset, inflicting what officers said is “well over $10,000” in damage to the grounds, before wrecking his car a sand trap.

Chris Meier, 49, of 27 Claire Lane in Sayville was intoxicated when he drove his 1995 Ford Taurus onto the Deepdale Golf Course at 300 North Service Road in Manhasset at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, a county police news release said.

After driving onto the course, Meier struck two golf carts – one of which was occupied – before wrecking his car into the sand trap, police said.

Meier attempted to run from the scene after wrecking his car, but he was chased down by employees of the golf course, who held the Sayville man until police arrived, the news release said.

Police said no one was injured as a result of Meier’s ride through the golf course.

Meier was charged with three counts of criminal mischief in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree and aggravated driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned at 1st District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
