Police recovered a dead body from Hempstead Harbor Friday afternoon, about a week after a Glen Cove man’s boat grounded in Sands Point without him aboard.

Police discovered the body floating in the harbor at 12:30 on Friday.

The identity of the victim and the cause of death will be determined by the Nassau County Medical Examiner’s office, police said.

On June 3, police found Ralph Fletcher’s 21-foot boat grounded in Sands Point at 7:30 p.m.

The Coast Guard called off the search, which lasted for about 24 hours and covered 225 square nautical miles.

The grounded boat had the owner’s personal items aboard, including his cellphone, wallet and keys, as well as a dog, police said.

In addition to various Coast Guard units, the Glen Cove Police Department, the Greenwich (Connecticut) Police Department, the Nassau County Police Department, the New Rochelle Police Department, the New York Fire Department, the Oyster Bay Police Department, the Port Washington Police Department, the Sands Point Police Department and the Westchester Police Department assisted in the search.
