Port troupe to host church fundraiser

Port Washington Play Troupe will host “Songs for Cecilia,” an informal church fundraiser series for St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church that welcomes anyone to come on stage and sing a song from the Great American Songbook.

“We’re thrilled to give back to this church, while offering a supportive environment for anyone who’d like to give performing a try,” said Play Troupe President Pam Meadows. “If you love karaoke, just imagine singing along to beautiful piano accompaniment. Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome.”

Participants may bring their own sheet music or choose from provided musical theater songbooks and will be accompanied on baby grand piano by board member David Barnett. There will be time for approximately 20 singers to perform, and the evening will conclude with a group sing-along of a well-known classic (printed lyrics to be provided).

The performance will take place in the St. Cecilia room and voluntary donations will be collected to re-carpet the room for the church. St. Stephen’s has supported Play Troupe since its founding in 1927.

The concert series will take place between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on three Wednesdays, Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4. St. Stephen’s is located at 9 Carlton Ave., Port Washington

Updates and further information will be available on Play Troupe’s Facebook page and web site, www.portwashingtonplaytroupe.com. To find out more call (516) 500-2012.
