Redmen Baseball Club gives back to homeless

The Island Now

On Saturday, March 21, the Redmen Baseball Club joined together at Saint Aidan School in Williston Park for their most recent charity event.

Giving back is a priority for these boys, mostly from Williston Park, Mineola, Albertson, New Hyde Park and Roslyn, and they were very happy to reach out and help the homeless, aassemble personal hygiene kits for them for St. Anne’s Parish in Brentwood.

Through donations from the ball club and a family in the club, the boys were able to assemble 540 kits that morning, each with a personal note in it from the boy who packed it.   The kits were delivered to and distributed in Wyandanch.

The Redmen Baseball Club is made up of seven teams ages 8 through 13.

Since 2011, it has always been a part of the Redmen belief that baseball is more than boys just playing a ball game on a field together, but about bringing that team effort together to help those less fortunate in our communities.

The teams have volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, baking for families staying there, collected Band Aids and lollipops for the children at the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop, organized a Field Day at AHRC for children with special needs, collected necessities for troops in Afghanistan, sent Christmas presents to children in areas of need through Samaritan’s Purse, and sent sporting goods to Let’s Play it Forward charity.
