Replacement of diving boards delayed

Work to install new diving boards at Christopher Morley Park revealed other repairs will be necessary to the pool deck, pushing back a project that a Nassau County Department of Public Works spokesman had previously said would be ready by the end of summer.

Nassau Public Works Press Secretary Michael Martino said in an email Wednesday that the installation of new diving boards at the pool will be ready by the next swim season.

“The diving boards will not be ready this season,” Martino said.

Installation of the new boards had previously slowed after the delivery of the replacement boards had taken longer than initally anticipated.

“It took a little more time than expected to take delivery from [the] manufacturer,” Martino said.

Due to years of wear and tear, the pool’s three-tiered diving platform had rusted and worn down. The high dive had also been closed and removed from the platform.

The county is planning a study to determine whether a replacement high dive would be welcomed by users of the park and whether its installation “would be feasible,” Martino said.
