Manhasset Park District officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday to commemorate the opening of its new merchant parking lot at 61 Locust Street.
The lot will provide up to 15 parking spaces for local business owners and their employees, officials said.
The Town of North Hempstead approved the park district’s acquisition of the lot, which was previously a vacant residential property, in December. The park district then demolished the house and paved over the land.
The park district also has merchant parking available at lots on Hillside Avenue, George Street and Locust Place.
Park District Commissioner Mark Sauvigne said in early July that the park district expected to open the lot by the late spring but faced delays due to drainage problems and other issues with the Town of North Hempstead’s building department.
The new lot will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and have three-hour parking meters. Vehicles remaining in a metered lot for more than three hours will receive a $70 fine.
Local business owners and their employees may reserve merchant parking spaces for $720 per year.
