Roslyn boys finish season just short of title

The Island Now

The Roslyn Boys’ Varsity Tennis team had an amazingly successful season.  Their record was 11-3 and they entered the playoffs as the number 3 seed. In the playoffs, they defeated Plainedge and Port Washington in the first two rounds which put them into the semifinals.

In the semis, Roslyn defeated the Seahawks of Cold Spring Harbor in a tough match by a score of 4-3.  Roslyn then moved on to the finals for the first time since 2010, where they took on the Syosset Braves.  Roslyn fell just short of the championship by a score of 5-2.

On Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15, Roslyn High School sent seven members of the varsity team to participate in the Nassau County Invitational Tennis Tournament at Oceanside high school. Playing singles for the Bulldogs was 9th grader Adrian Tsui, in doubles the Bulldogs sent Evan Kirsh and Justin Lempert, Sangjin Song and Zachary Khazzam and Eric Irom and Chase Greenberg.

Everyone played an amazing tournament with Adrian Tsui losing to a tough opponent who made it to the semifinal round.  Justin Lempert and Evan Kirsh played great matches and were then defeated in the third round by a tough team.

Eric Irom and Chase Greenberg, who play first dowels for the Bulldogs during the season, earned All County honors. In addition, the doubles team of Zachary Khazzam and Sangjin Song earned All County and All State honors and will compete in the New York State tennis tournament to be held at the National Tennis Center in Flushing on June 2-4.

Coach Kerri Jannotte-Hinkley is extremely proud of the team’s efforts throughout the season.
