Emilia Bunich, a Roslyn High School student who studies dance at the Long Island High School for the Arts in Syosset, has been named a Scholar-Artist by the Long Island Arts Alliance for her “excellence as a practicing artist and for superior academic achievement,” officials said.

Bunich, an 12th grader, said she aspires to perform with a professional dance company and would also like to someday teach dance.

“As long as I’m dancing, I’ll be happy,” she said.

According to officials, Bunich has been dancing since she was in the fourth grade and has developed her talent in a variety of dance styles, including ballet, modern and jazz, which have helped her excel in more difficult styles like hip-hop and African tribal dances.

“Emilia is a very serious, hard-working student,”  dance teacher Janice Aguilera said. “Any college that gets her will be lucky to have her. She’s multitalented. I have no doubt she will do well in whatever she chooses to do.”

Scholar-artist committee chairperson John J. Gallagher commended Bunich for her achievement with a letter, in which he wrote, “We recognize that you are dedicated to your art and are a very valuable asset to your school district. We commend you for your hard work, excellent scholarship and accomplishments.”

The Long Island High School for the Arts is part of Nassau Board of Cooperative Educational Services, which provides cost-effective educational services for school districts and other municipalities.
