Roslyn Estates OKs $1.464 million budget

The Village of Roslyn Estates plans to spend 2.2 percent less in the next fiscal year than it did in 2014-15, as its board of trustees on Monday introduced and approved a $1,464,127.08 budget for 2015-16.

The budget carries a $1,068,770.81 tax levy — the same amount Roslyn Estates budgeted for in 2014-15 — but officials said that tax bills will likely decrease due to an increase in the assessed value of properties within the village.

Roslyn Estates plans to spend $175,946 on road repair and for costs pertaining to equipment necessary for street maintenance.

Mayor Jeff Schwartzberg, who along with Deputy Mayor Jeff Lindenbaum and new Trustee Rodney Khazzam took the oath of office Monday, said the village is also formulating a long-term road maintenance plan that would cover how frequently various roads are paved following winter storms.

Roslyn Estates has also budgeted $10,000 for snow removal supplies and $1,200 in snow removal equipment.

The village is anticipating $395,356.27 in non-tax revenue, including $140,000 from permit fees and $22,500 from the forfeiture of deposits.

In other developments:

• The board approved a one-year garbage contract with Meadow Carting that includes two, one-year options.

The village will pay $168,000 in the first year, while the second year would be worth $174,720 and the third for $185,530, officials said.

• A $31,590.02 expenditure toward the purchase of a new Bobcat utility vehicle on a state contract was approved.

• The board presented John DiStefano, the village’s commissioner of public works, parks and highways, with an award commending him for his service to the village.
