The Island Now

On Sunday, April 28 hundreds of students and judges streamed into Roslyn High School to participate in the annual Research Association Invitational Science Fair. Over 400 students presented their projects on topics ranging from computer science to biochemistry to psychology to more than 100 volunteer judges from universities and the local community.

Forty-one Roslyn High School students participated in the fair, entering 26 different projects.

Three Roslyn students earned First Place awards: Huzefa Diwan, Brian Rogofsky, and Alain Sherman. Second Place winners were Arshia Aalami, Rachel Mintz, and Tiffany Sun. Earning 3rd Place awards from Roslyn were Hardy Chen, Jessica Futoran, David Jaslow, Andrew Katz, Ludia Ock, and Marc Perlman. Merit and Honors awards went to: Meena Ardebili, Jordan Fishbach, Matthew Forrest, Olivia Kung, Jerry Li, Jordan Rosen, Aansh Shah, Esther Shin, and Brandon Tepper.

The fair was sponsored by WAC Lighting, a Long Island-based firm that generously donated the funds for the fair’s prizes. The fair rotates amongst 10 area high schools, and this year was Roslyn’s turn.  “It’s amazing how much work goes into running something like this,” said Dr. Allyson Weseley, Roslyn High School’s Coordinator of Secondary Research.  “I had such tremendous support from my colleagues, my students, their parents, the administration, and the custodial staff!”
