Roslyn High School senior David Jaslow has been named the top high school volunteer in the state by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, which annually honors students for their volunteer work.

Jaslow, who earlier this year was one of four Roslyn students who were named semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search, was nominated for the Prudential Spirit of Community awards for his work with “Go With Courage,” a charity he co-founded that in the last four years has raised $300,000 toward cancer research.

As one of two New York honorees, Jaslow will receive a $1,000 award, an engraved silver medallion and a trip to Washington, D.C. in early May for a national recognition ceremony in which he could be named among the top 10 volunteers of the year.

“Prudential is honored to celebrate the contributions of these remarkable young volunteers,” said Prudential chairman and chief executive officer John Strangfeld in a statement. “By shining a spotlight on the difference they’ve made in their communities, we hope others are inspired to volunteer, too.”

Jaslow was not available for comment.

In January, Jaslow was among four Roslyn seniors whose research projects reached the semifinal round of the Intel Science Talent Search.

His project analyzed incentives among various retirement plans, searching for convenient program for employers and their employees.

“I remember leaving the house and my mom asking if she should expect to hear from me about Intel, and I said, you know, don’t get your hopes up,” he said at the time. “And then I see my name and I thought it could have easily been a dream.”
