Roslyn scores 22-14 Homecoming win

Adam Combs’ 27-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Hunter with less than two minutes to play gave the Roslyn Bulldogs the lead and eventual victory over Long Island Lutheran, 22-14. 

On the ground, Thomas Davis and Chris Snipes both carried for more than 100 yards (116 and 101, respectively), allowing Combs to toss three touchdowns, two to Hunter and one to Alex Epprecht in the first half. But it was defense and the ground game that set up the Homecoming Day win. 

Epprecht was the catalyst on defense for the Bulldogs, racking up 12 tacks, two forced fumbles, a sack and the game-changing stop on fourth down with 2:19 left in the fourth to get Roslyn the ball back for its eventual game-winning drive. Jeremy also had an interception in the win.

Roslyn improves to 3-0 in Nassau Conference V and will travel to take on Friends Academy (2-1) Saturday at 3 p.m. 

Mineola 27, Carle Place / Wheatley 0. The Mineola defense held Carle Place / Wheatley scoreless behind the play of Ryan Eccher, Eric Guardano and Leo Gorry, all of whom recorded sacks and helping the Mustangs to their first in of the season. Justin Oommen, who also had a TD reception from quarterback Vinny Bieniek, added an interception. Eccher also led the team in scoring with 80 yards on 15 attempts and a touchdown. Bieniek and Kyle Dunleavey also ran for 55 and 50 yards, respectively, and both scored a touchdown apiece. Mineola (1-2 Nassau Conference IV) will host North Shore Saturday at 7 p.m. at  Hampton Stadium, while Carle Place / Wheatley (1-2) will travel to Valley Stream North Saturday at 3 p.m.

MacArthur 28, Herricks 0. MacArthur got two touchdown tosses from signal-caller Jimmy Kelleher and scoring runs by Brandon Kustek and Carmine Criscione en route to shutout win over the Highlanders. Herricks, now 1-2 in Nassau Conference II, will host Westbury Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Port Washington 55, Great Neck South 28. Port Washington jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead and never looked back. James Burns threw for two TDs and Matthew Nicholson threw for one, but the bulk of the damage was done on the ground. Mike Gennusa had 153 yards ion 13 carries and a score, while Angel Reyes scored once and Marc Livshin carried 10 times for 71 yards. Port remains unbeaten with the win, moving to 3-0 in Nassau Conference V, while South falls to 0-3. Great Neck will host Jericho Saturday at 3 p.m.

Jericho 21, Great Neck North 14. Great Neck North suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to previously winless Jericho despite a 60-yard touchdown pass from Brian Kahen to Rom Cohen and a two-yard scoring run by Kahen. Jericho was led by running back Ben Wachtel’s 186 yards rushing and quarterback Chris Rodgers’ TD toss to Ian Greene. North (2-1, Nassau Conference V) will host first place Port Washington Saturday at 3 p.m.

Manhasset 20, New Hyde Park 14.  James Farrell carried the ball eight times for 177 yards and two touchdowns and had a 57-yard scoring reception to lead the Manhasset Indians (1-2, Nassau Conference III) over New Hyde Park, giving first-year head coach Henry Simpkins a victory over his alma mater on New Hyde Park’s Homecoming Day. Jawaun Gillespie had two interceptions and Bryant Herbert had one pick and two sacks in the win. New Hyde Park added two fourth quarter scores, including a 15-yard pass from quarterback Tom Kemmet to Matthew Dluglinski. Manhasset will host Lynbrook, while the Gladiators (0-3) will take to the road to battle Valley Stream South. Both games are slated for Saturday at 3 p.m.

Chaminade 29, Mount St. Michael 8. The Chaminade Flyers remain undefeated following a dominant win over Mount. St. Michael Saturday. Rob Speranza scored three touchdowns for the victors, two on the ground and one in air from quarterback Sean Cerrone. Matthew Isnardi also had a scoring reception in the second quarter. Cerrone led the Chaminade ground game with 95 yards on nine carries, as the team rushed for more than 250 yards. The Flyers (3-0 CHSFL AAA-AA) will host Holy Trinity Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
