Roslyn Wine and Liquor holds grand opening ceremony

For Ana Chablaney, the owner of Roslyn Wine and Liquor on Old Northern Boulevard, there truly is no price too low when it comes to providing her customers with convenient service.

“I once delivered a $10 bottle of wine to a customer,” Chablaney said. “I’ll go out of my way for my customers. I go the extra mile.”

Chablaney, a mother of two and sole owner of the store, said that she never closes the door on a customer.

“I close at 9 [p.m.], but normally stay until 10 [p.m.] on the weekends,” she said. “I am here for [the customers.] For their convenience I am open.”

In August, Chablaney took over a store that she described as “run down,” “dark and dingy” and “[having] very little stock.”

After a few months of renovations, including a fresh coat of paint, a new laminate floor and new shelving for bottles, Roslyn Wine and Liquor was ready for its grand opening ceremony on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16.

According to Chablaney, the changes made the store “more customer friendly.”

“Everybody loves the [new] store,” Chablaney said. “[Customers say they like it] better than the previous owner’s [store.]”

Chablaney said the store was even open while the renovations were taking place.

“Even though we had boxes [on the floor] people came in,” she said. “It is a neighborhood store.”

A former wedding planner, Chablaney said she was involved in multiple events associated with wine that got her interested in the liquor store business.

“I love my wine,” she said. “I love my spirits.”

Keeping a vast array of products on the shelves is of the utmost importance to Chablaney.

To keep up with nearby liquor stores, Chablaney said, she is constantly trying to keep her stock up to date.

“[I’m] trying to het more stock everyday so people can have more choices,” she said. “I try to bring in products that customers [ask me for.]”

Chablaney also focuses on keeping her prices in line with her competition.

“[Customers] told me that prices were too high before,” she said. “I [tried] to cut down prices to be more competitive.”

Weekend wine and spirit tastings have become a staple under Chablaney’s ownership.

Offering customers samples of wines, bourbons and single malts, Chablaney said that talking to customers is her favorite aspect of the job.

“I wouldn’t like a job where [I] couldn’t meet people,” she said.

A vodka a tequila drinker herself, Chablaney said, she was able to infuse “a little bit of personality” into her store thanks to a sign she has hanging to the right of the store’s front entrance.

The sign features phrases such as “Alcohol: because no great story started with a salad,” and “Time flies when you’re having rum.”

One day, Chablaney, a Syosset resident, said she hopes to become a fixture in the Roslyn community.

“I would like to be a part of [the Roslyn] community where they can rely on me and count on me,” she said. “I’m looking for a place in their hearts.”
