The Rotary Club of Great Neck’s Summer Community Band announced its 14th year of free Wednesday evening concerts on the Old Village Green, co-sponsored by the Great Neck Park District. The concerts begin at 7:30, and patrons must provide their own chairs or blankets. The dates and events are:

July 10: A program of Americana music with guest conductor Louisiana Andy, and an encore presentation by cellist Jeremy Bernstein, now 10 years old and just completed the fifth-grade at Saddle Rock elementary.

July 17: Officially Children’s Night. Our four soloists are Omar Mira, Baritone Horn from J.F.K., Shalin Madan, Cello from E.M. Baker; Thomas Chang, Trumpet from Saddle Rock; and Maya Pfeiffer, Violin from Lakeville. These young folks were nominated by their teachers, and they’re playing the pieces they performed at NYSSMA. Maestro Flamhaft arranged their music for band accompaniment.

July 24 is Hollywood Favorites night. In addition to those classics, there’s one more elementary player; Benjamin Klayman-Reiss, a fine young trombonist who will play Bach’s Menuet in G.

July 31 is a night of Maestro Flamhaft’s favorite pieces, and includes a performance by the Honorable Judi Bosworth narrating Peter and the Wolf. Originally scheduled for children’s night, it was moved to accommodate the busy schedule of candidate Bosworth.

In the event of rain, concerts are moved indoors to the Parkwood Sports Complex.

The Rotary Club of Great Neck meets over breakfast on Wednesday mornings at the Great Neck Social Center at 80 Grace Avenue, from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. and invites you to attend for fellowship, interesting programs, an opportunity to network your business or service, and to provide Service Above Self.  For more info  (516) 829-8709.
