Sarah Singh had owned her own salon in her native Trinibad and Tobego before migrating to the U.S. 15 years ago.

Now, Singh has come full circle and opened a new hair salon, Sarah’s Salon Creations, in New Hyde Park.

“It’s my first salon in America,” she said, smiling. “I love the community. I love the people. It’s very welcoming.”

Singh said she has done hair grooming on a freelance basis since moving to this country and settling with her husband and two sons in Bellerose.

Singh said she wanted to run her own business again and thought she had found the perfect spot at 1200A Jericho Turnpike, near the corner of 12th Street.

Singh said she wanted to be close to home, and she plans to move to New Hyde Park in the near future.

Her two sons, Kevin, 9, has been attending Our Lady of the Snows School in Floral Park and her five-year-old son Jeet, will start attending school there in the fall.

She has been volunteering her time at the school’s library during the past two years.

Her husband, Preet, who works in a Manhattan cell phone business, is very active in the local Sikh community.

Her salon offers a full range of hair care services, doing nails, facials and threading on Saturdays. Singh said she wanted her salon to be a small one, offering personalized service in a comfortable environment as a “one-stop shop.”

A member of the Greater New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce, Singh said business in the salon has been brisk over the two months since her shop opened.

“We’re having repeat customers. Families are coming in,” she said.

In addition to the steady customers she’s already drawn, her business had been growing by word-of-mouth, and she said she is thoroughly enjoying the location in New Hyde Park.

“It’s very welcoming,” she said.
