The Great Neck Chamber of Commerce will honor state Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel and two local business leaders at its annual awards dinner on May 30.

Attendees, with their $100 seats reserved, will file into Leonard’s Palazzo for cocktails and dinner to watch Schimel receive the Jesse Markel Award, Pejman Toobian of Colbeh Restaurant take the Robert E. Freeman Retailer Award and Andrew Hotel director of sales Corrine Doria win the Business Person of the Year Award.

“Each of these award winners has demonstrated an inspirational devotion to the continuing betterment of Great Neck. It is no easy task to expend the kind of energy and time commitment that each of them has put forth to bring excellence to our community,” wrote the chamber in a press release. “The Chamber of Commerce is proud and privileged to honor them and their extraordinary efforts on behalf of the Great Neck peninsula.”

Schimel and Doria expressed gratitude for their awards in statements to the Great Neck News.

“I am honored to be selected by the Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is the emblem of our community. So many of the businesses in the chamber are the gateway to Great Neck. We must support our chamber and shop the establishments they represent to preserve the vitality of Great Neck,” Schimel said.

“Thank you to the Great Neck Chamber of Commerce,” wrote Doria in an e-mail. “It is an honor to work with and be a part of such a wonderful organization and community. It is with great pride and respect [that I] accept this award.”
