School board honors students

The Manhasset Board of Education on Thursday honored several students for their accomplishments in various math and social studies competitions during the 2013-14 school year.

The board honored Shelter Rock Elementary School winners Serena Zhao, Justin Liu, Elizabeth Yu and Michelle Park. Zhao received first place Long Island honors.

Kathryn Auriemma and Christopher Kang, of Munsey Park Elementary School, took second place Long Island honors in the competition.

Junior Mathletes Henry Son and Adam Xiao, and Long Island Math Fair gold medalist Sarah Henry were also honored.

Joshua Benabou, Jessica Kim, Zachary Leng, Matthew Peng, Michael Wang and Typher Yom were commemorated for their participation in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. 

YuanYi (Hill) Yin was also recognized for participating in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination as well as the United States of America Junior Mathematical Olympiad.

Manhasset students who received “All Star” designation by the Nassau County Interscholastic Math League – Julien Cheng, Jessica Kim and Matthew Peng – were also recognized by the board.

Manhasset’s social studies department recognized Alice Donnelly, a Nassau County finalist in the American Legion Oratorical Contest; William Delaney and Jack Wesson, who participated in the League of Women Voters’ 2014 Students Inside Albany program; Prajnan Senthil-Kumar, who received a Commendation for Diplomatic Excellence at the Hofstra University Model United Nations conference; and Elizabeth Boyle, who was named Best Delegate at the Hofstra University Model United Nations conference.
