Seminar spotlights art funding

The Town of North Hempstead’s Business and Tourism Development Corporation will host “The Business of Art – Round 2,” a free seminar and art exhibition focusing on funding sources for artists, nonprofits and entrepreneurs.

Town Councilwoman Viviana Russell will be moderating the program and has already taken an integral role in bringing the arts to New Cassel, such as the recent implementation of “Arts Build,” which includes life-like sculptures placed throughout downtown New Cassel.

“It is important that we use art to stimulate economic growth within our community and across the entire Town,” said Russell. “Partnering with the BTDC and the LIDC to create this event enables us to help provide residents and businesses alike with a wealth of knowledge from industry professionals.”

The seminar and exhibit will be held Friday, Oct. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the “Yes We Can” Community Center at 141 Garden St, Westbury.

Scheduled speakers for the event include Lisa Robb, executive director of the New York State Council on the Arts, Peter Cobb, program officer at the New York Foundation for the Arts, and Roz Goldmacher, president/CEO of Long Island Development Corp.

The art exhibition component will feature the work of Robert Carter, Emmett Wigglesworth and Mario Tucci.

Registration is required. Call (516) 433-5000 or register online at: www.btdc.biz/Onlineregistration.asp.
