A senior at Herricks High has been selected to the 2013 NAfME All-National Honor Choir sponsored by the National Association for Music Education. Joslyn Thomas will join more than 670 of the most musically talented and skilled high school students in the United States to perform at a gala concert on Oct. 30 in Nashville, Tenn.

Thomas will sing under the baton of one of the most prominent choral conductors in the United States, Rollo Dilworth. Thomas is one of only 32 students on Long Island and 74 in New York to be selected for this honor.

At Herricks, Thomas is a member of the Chamber Choir, Womens Choir and Herricks 16 as well as an ensemble member of the Herricks Fall Musical, “Kiss Me Kate” and an active member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She has been an active member of the MYO Youth Chorale for the past three years as well as Nassau Suffolk Vocal for two years. Thomas participated in All County and All State and All Eastern as a junior.

Louise O’Hanlon, Thomas’ chorus teacher at Herricks said, “Joslyn is a hard working, caring and compassionate young woman. She is passionate about music and encourages other students. This is a fabulous and well earned opportunity for her.” Joslyn is anticipating another incredible musical experience. “I am looking forward to working with Rollo Dilworth and singing among the countries most talented vocalists. I am eager to meet new friends and making music with them.”

The NAfME All-National Honors Ensembles consist of a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed chorus, and jazz ensemble. The concert band and symphony orchestra will each have approximately 150 instrumentalists, the jazz ensemble will have 20 instrumentalists, and the mixed chorus will have approximately 350 vocalists. Eligible students have qualified for their state-level honor ensemble program and competed against top students for a spot in these national honor ensembles.
