Kevin O’Brien, who currently serves as assistant superintendent for business and operations in the Connetquot School District, was recently appointed as assistant superintendent of finance and operations for the Sewanhaka Central High School District.

O’Brien’s appointment is effective on Aug. 1. He is. He will succeed Maureen Kenney, who is retiring from the position this year.

“I’m coming home. I grew up in that area and I’m very excited about that,” O’Brien said.

O’Brien grew up in East Williston and attended the St. Aidan School in Williston Park. He also attended St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset.

O’Brien was hired as director of accounting and district transportation in the Connetquot School District in 2007. He has held his current position there since 2008.

Before working in Connetquot, he was assistant superintendent of business and operations in the North Merrick School District and assistant business administrator in the Port Washington School District.

“It’s exciting. It’s dynamic. There’s always something different going on,” he said of his work as a school district business administrator.

After receiving a masters in business administration from Hofstra University in 1996, O’Brien started working as an audit manager for KPMG that same year.

In that position, his clients included Hofstra, Long Island University, Manhattan College, Dowling College, Nassau BOCES, the City of New York, Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Town of Southampton.

“We’re very happy to have Kevin come on board. He has excellent credentials and he’s done fine work at Connequot and we’re looking forward to him continuing his fine work here at Sewanhaka,” Ferrie said.

Ferrie praised Kenney for what he described as a “wonderful job” she’s done for the district over her six years with Sewanhaka.

“She’s done a really exceptional job here,” he said.
