The Island Now

Breast cancer survivor Cynthia Nixon was recently presented with a Lifetime Achievement award by Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Dr. Roger Simpson. Mangano introduced the “Sex and the City” star who spoke about being a breast cancer survivor and the daughter of a breast cancer survivor. Although her mother ultimately succumbed to the disease earlier this year, Nixon still considers her mother a breast cancer survivor. Her mother was originally diagnosed with breast cancer over 35 years ago. Mangano thanked Simpson for “all of his hard work and dedication to helping breast cancer survivors to have a better quality of life and comfort through breast reconstruction.” More than 400 people attended the annual summit which included discussions on patient education and the latest innovations in breast reconstruction.
