My name is Michael DiBattista, and I am writing in support of Jonai Singh in her campaign to fill the vacant seat on the Herricks School District’s Board of Education.
I believe that Jonai has the passion and the motivation to defend the interests of the students, the very group that the school system and the board of education exist to serve.
I met Jonai as the student representative to the board of education and a voice for the students during last year’s budget proceedings. As co-president of the Herricks Council of PTAs and as a mother of two children in the district, I knew that we were both fighting for the same reasons. I knew that Jonai understood the value of a quality education and the necessity of placing the interests of the students above all else. If elected to the board, I am confident that those interests will continue to serve the students of the school district well.
From my personal experience, I know that Jonai is committed to hearing the views of the students, on whatever the issue may be. While many in the community seem to forget that the board of education and the school system exist to serve the needs of the students, and to ensure that a high quality of education and success in the various extracurriculars is maintained, Jonai knows better. She understands that without education, there is no future for the students.
Jonai appreciates that without opportunities for achievement and leadership, byproducts of extracurricular activities, the students will not learn the key lessons of working together and succeeding through hard work and dedication. Jonai recognizes that money well spent now on academics and education, will pay off dividends to the students and their families, through college and well beyond.
From my experience as a voice of the students, I fully endorse Jonai Singh in her campaign for a seat on the Herricks Board of Education. I am confident that Jonai will respect and always lend an ear to the needs of the students, and will always to ensure that the highest quality of education is always available for the students. I encourage all students of age, college alumni, parents of students in the district and all other community members to vote for Jonai Singh and for the 2011-2012 budget on Tuesday, May 17.
