Singh has right stuff for Herrick ed board

The Island Now

It is with great pleasure that I sit down to write this letter on behalf of Jonai Singh a long-term resident and a much respected, generous, productive and extremely articulate member of the Herricks Community.

Every community dreams of having responsible, civic-minded citizens occupying positions of leadership and authority. Jonai Singh is running for the position of Herricks School Board trustee.

As a former Herricks School Board trustee (2005-2008) I heartily endorse Jonai Singh without any reservations for the position of Herricks School Board trustee.

As we all know the position of a school board trustee is a very important one that requires a certain skill set and we as community members should be extra vigilant in selecting members that display those skills. In my mind a board of trustee should:

Be visionary and goal oriented.

Have proven fiscal and leadership skills

Demonstrate commitment to public service

Be a champion for quality education for all students

Be able to work with diverse groups of people

Work hard in a collaborative manner and be a team player

Network among school and community-at-large organizations effectively

Currently, Jonai is finishing a two-year term as co-president of the Herricks Council of PTA’s. Jonai has been a resident of Herricks for several years during which she has served our district in a variety of capacities in and out of the Herricks school system.

I have had the privilege of knowing and seeing Jonai Singh in action for the last several years and have been held in awe of her:

Leadership skills

Organizational skills

Networking skills

Fundraising skills

Collaborative and consensus building skills.

Jonai has often remarked that public service is her life and she loves it. Those are not just words. Jonai’s actions have shown everyone around her that she lives and breaths by that ethos. She has given of herself tirelessly and generously to the Herrick’s Community through the school and PTA’s and other social organizations. Not only has she championed for our kids her other passion has been to work on behalf of senior residents of our community. Networking with Town of North Hempstead officials she has also been instrumental in developing programs for immigrant seniors, enabling them to get out of isolation, educate them of services available and help them integrate with senior community at large.

Jonai has tremendous energy for public service. She loves it and does it for the right reasons. I would urge you all to vote for Jonai Singh on Election Day May 17, 2011.
