Some old time rock ‘n roll with Zebra

The Island Now

The rock band Zebra will perform at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury on Sunday, May 19 at 7 p.m.  Local favorites, Wonderous Stories will be their special guest.

Zebra is a hard rock power trio founded in 1975 in New Orleans.  Featuring Randy Jackson, Felix Hanemann, and Guy Gelso, the band got their start playing in clubs here on Long Island.  They started their career performing covers of Led Zeppelin, The Moody Blues and Rush, mixing in some original music in their sets.

Noticed by radio station WBAB, they were invited to contribute a song to WBAB’s HOMEGROWN ALBUM.

Their selection of “Who’s Behind The Door” led to some significant airplay and ultimately to a record contract. Their 1983 debut on Atlantic Records featured the hit single “Tell Me What You Want” and “Who’s Behind The Door.” While Zebra has only recorded four albums of original material, the three members of the band have continued to perform and recently celebrated their 35th Anniversary.

Wonderous Stories has been described as Long Island’s best progressive rock cover band.

Performing progressive music of the sixties, seventies and eighties, the band features the music of YES, Genesis, ELP, The Who, Peter Gabriel and The Beatles in their sets.
