Sounds of Motown in Plaza

The Island Now

The Village of Great Neck Plaza announces that the sounds of ‘Hitsville, U.S.A.’ will be coming to the Plaza, as Motown group Sugar & Spice will be playing in the gazebo at Firefighters’ Park Tuesday, June 28, as part of the 2016 Village of Great Neck Plaza Summer Concert Series.

Making their first appearance in the village’s annual concert series, Sugar & Spice, led by Long Island’s first couple of soul, Joyce and Darryl Kendrick, will be filling the Firefighters’ Park with the songs of Motown that would make Berry Gordy proud.

“Sugar & Spice is renowned for their renditions of Motown’s greatest performers all across Long Island, and I have no doubt that our usual crowd of dancing concert-goers will be in store for quite the show,” Village of Great Neck Plaza Mayor Jean Celender said.

Village officials would like to thank the night’s concert sponsor, Metropolitan Commercial Bank.

One of the leading commercial and personal banking centers that offers the personal connection of the local community bank, as well as the expertise and resources that matches the largest global banks, Metropolitan Commercial Bank is located in the heart of the Plaza’s downtown at 111 Great Neck Road.

A nine-piece group, Sugar & Spice is made up entirely of life-long musicians and singers, many of whom who have played with some of the biggest names in the music industry and toured the country doing what they love; putting on an incredible show for concert-goers.

A headlining act at venues and events across the Island, Sugar & Spice has built a large fan-base for their shows that are synonymous with being high-energy and full of action.

From the smooth and soulful vocals, the vivacious horn section and the rich tones from the saxophones, Sugar & Spice will have you on the edge of your seats on Tuesday night, and humming the hits of Motown on Wednesday morning.

In the case of inclement weather, the concert performance will be moved to the Great Neck Social Center at 80 Grace Avenue.

Check with village staff at Village Hall on the day of the concert, or call our voicemail after 5 p.m. at 516-482-4500.

The village will have a recorded message if the day’s scheduled concert has been moved from Firefighters’ Park to the Social Center.

It will also post an announcement on our Village website, www.greatneckplaza.net, if the concert is moved indoors.

Additionally, the village is grateful to the growing list of support from the business community of this year’s concert series: Emanuel Entertainment Services/David Emanuel, Mindy Greenberg Realtor, Daruma of Tokyo, Richland Management, The Andrew Hotel, Inn at Great Neck, Great Neck Diner, Mumbai Grill Inc., Nemat Development Group, North Shore Farms, Aura Salon & Style Lounge, Best Bagel/Bagel Hut, Flowering Lotus, Little Neck Car Wash, Radson Development and Ronald Fatoullah & Associates.
