St. Aidan School lacrosse taking league by storm

The Island Now

In its inaugural season, the St. Aidan School lacrosse team is taking their catholic school league by storm, winning their first two games over perennial favorites, St. Agnes of Rockville Centre and Long Beach Catholic.

St. Aidan’s defeated a strong St. Agnes team, 7 – 5, in their historic, first-ever school lacrosse contest. Two goals by Joe Grimm, and one goal each by Joe Salamone, Tom McCune, Andre Schiavone, Will Kinney and Luke Pacher, helped seal the victory.  During St. Aidan’s decisive, 10 – 4, win over powerhouse Long Beach Catholic, St. Aidan’s, Joe Salamone had an unbelievable 7 goals, assisted 5 times by Tom McCune.  This win was made possible only by the impenetrable Brendon Krebs in goal.

The St. Aidan School team consists of twenty 7th and 8th grade boys and is coached by Mr. Brian McGann.  Many of the boys have honed their lacrosse skills over years of practice with Mr. McGann and Mr. Bobby Redmond of Mineola PAL.  The St. Aidan’s team practices six hours a week and also competes in a ten game season, highlighted with a Catholic School Tournament at Chaminade.   St. Aidan’s hopes to keep their winning streak going during upcoming games against St. Mary’s, Manhasset and St. Patrick’s of Huntington, both lacrosse powerhouses.
