The St. Mary’s eighth grade boys team, coached by Slezak/Zaffiro/Petracca, won their semifinal game against Good Shepherd of Holbrook by a score of 59-56.

St. Mary’s was led by Marc Slezak with 21 points and Jordan Idaspe with 12. Jack Cargiulo and Jack Zaffiro added very strong inside play, scoring 11 and seven points, respectively.

Timely baskets and solid, all-around aggressive play was turned in by Jack Shelley and Matt Tsang, while very strong defensive performances by Wesley Wong, Grant Petracca and Jake Temares helped keep the Good Shepherd offense in check.

St. Mary’s will host the CYO Championship on Sunday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m. in the school’s Weist gym.

The St. Mary’s seventh grade boys Team 7 advanced to the final by besting St. Hugh of Lincoln of Huntington Station, 49–42.

A strong overall team game featured scoring by Timmy Kiggins (17), Chris Themells (12), Noah Semple (11) and solid contributions from Chris Glynn (five rebounds) and Edward Arnold (eight rebounds) under the boards.

The defense led by Louis Perfetto, Joseph Mulholland, Charlie Young, Steven Vlahakis, Patrick Weber, Steven Salerno and Duncan Barcelona.

The boys will face St. Aidan’s Sunday, March 23, at 4 p.m. at Holy Trinity High School.
