State DOT starts Jericho revamp in Mineola

The state Department of Transportation is close to completing work on curbs, handicapped ramps and drainage outlets in the first phase of its planned revamp of Jericho Turnpike in Mineola.

Short stretches of lanes along Jericho Turnpike have been closed recently as the work on curbs and ramps has been done.

Tully Construction of Flushing, the company retained for the project, is currently cleaning or replacing drains along the thoroughfare between Herricks Road and Glen Cove Road.

The milling – removal of four to eight inches of the road surface – and subsequent resurfacing is slated to start some time after Labor Day, according to a DOT spokesperson.

“We don’t have a schedule for the milling and filling work. We’re expecting to start on that sometime after Labor Day,” DOT spokeswoman Pat Audinot said this week.

DOP officials said the first phase of the project will take approximately a month to complete, with more extensive lane closures to occur during that phase.

The DOT will eventually repave the roadway between Herricks Road and the Queens County Line.
