The Island Now

On Jan. 17, 18, and 19, 25, New Hyde Park Memorial High School music students participated in the 2014 Nassau All County Music Festival held at the Tilles Center on the Campus of Long Island University.

Prior to the performance, the student musicians, under the direction of prominent guest conductors,   attended a week of rehearsals hosted by several Nassau County school districts. Their hard work and dedication to challenging repertoire culminated in a superb performance!

The following students performed in the Festival: Chorus: Sara Seper, Ryan Sanudo, Taylor Giallanza, Katelin Sokolowski, Matthew D’amico, Grant Wong,   McKenzie Lynch, Sabrina Balucci, Joshua Rajan, Shane Jacob, Priyanka Algu, Nicole Seper, Jake Rosario, James Reo, Rebecca Mathew and Christine Philipose. Orchestra: Morgan Roth, Ariaane Seenauth,   Matthew Wong, Matthew Chung, Brianna Mastandrea and Ryan Moon.  Band: Jay Shah, Daniella Cheng and Christopher Fink.

New Hyde Park Chorus student Taylor Giallanza traveled to Rochester in December for the annual All State Music Festival to participate in the All State choir. Taylor, a sophomore, performed at the Eastman School of Music under a prominent guest conductor with three hundred of New York’s finest high school vocalist.

The audition and the selection process for All State are extremely difficult and selective. Taylor, a soprano, was selected from thousands of vocalist auditioning throughout New York State. Taylor stated “The conductor was absolutely brilliant.  The experience left an impression on me that I will never forget.”
