Substance abuse prevention group awarded

The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence has been named the 2013 Agency of the Year by the Nassau Division of the National Association of Social Workers of New York State.  

LICADD will be presented with the award at the Swan Club on Thursday, June 6 at the agency’s Annual Awards Dinner.

 LICADD provides direct support to over 6,600 individuals and families annually through substance abuse interventions, treatment referrals and recovery support services.  The Student Assistance Program delivers prevention education trainings to 20,000 students, parents, teachers and administrators in 56 districts. An additional 60,000 individuals are served through the agency’s Open Arms Employee Assistance Program. 

In addition to developing programing in response to trends in substance abuse and addiction on Long Island, the agency actively pushes for effective public policy as it relates to underage drinking, substance abuse and access to treatment.  

“I am honored to accept the award on behalf of our clinical team,” said LICADD Executive Director Jeffrey Reynolds. “We have an exceptionally dedicated staff and their commitment to their clients shows in each and every interaction.”   

“LICADD is an exemplary organization,” said NASW-NYS Nassau Division Director Warren Graham, “and we are pleased to bestow the 2013 Agency of the Year Award in light of the remarkable achievements LICADD and its staff continue to make in the field of social work.”

The NASW-NYS Nassau Division Annual Awards Dinner will be on Thursday, June 6 at the Swan Club, located at 90 Glenwood Road in Roslyn.  

LICADD will be honored as Agency of the Year, Bill Solz, of Stress Solutions of Long Island will be honored as Social Worker of the Year and Liz O’Shaughnessy, president and executive director of CoLoKi Inc., will be honored as the Public Citizen of the Year. 

Andrew Malekoff, executive director and CEO of the North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center will be the Keynote Speaker.
