33rd Annual Dutch Festival

One of Long Island’s favorite traditions, the Hofstra University Dutch Festival is going through a reinvention with more emphasis on family activities and community services. As always, enjoy the annual tulip display, music and theater performances, art exhibits and demonstrations, and carnival games. Children’s activities include music, food and vendors. What a great way to spend a “Family Funday!” Enjoy live jazz music while strolling through our beautiful campus boasting of tulips in bloom and Hofstra’s Dutch heritage. Plenty of “shopportunities” before Mother’s Day! This will be outdoors on the South Campus. Admission is free.

Peter and The Wolf

Pushcart puts its trademark spin on a beloved Russian folk tale. Classical music by Prokofiev, storytelling, puppetry and the ageless adventure of growing up comprise this masterpiece. The music offers a different instrument and melody (or “leitmotif”) which represents each character of the play, creating an excellent link to understanding all types of music. The story is a lively adventure about a spirited young boy who meets the challenge of danger with courage, creativity and leadership. The celebration is the value of love, friendship and caring and the dangers of greed, arrogance and prejudice. There is innocence and wisdom, youth and maturity, conflict resolution, moral development, and beauty in the natural order of life! All seats are $18; Friends of the Landmark are $15. All ticket prices include a $2 facilities fee.

Bugs with Wings

Discover metamorphosis, molting, and mating of the butterflies, dragonflies, honeybees and more that call the Preserve home. Our indoor and outdoor stations will include a short presentation, special stories, art projects, and visits to the habitats that attract these bugs with wings. Live Animal Exhibit

Open year-round, CSTL’s live animal exhibit offers visitors of all ages a unique opportunity to meet and encounter a variety of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Visitors to the exhibit can expect a more intimate, family-oriented experience than most zoos, as they interact with chatty parrots, look eye to eye with alligators, pet dwarf goats, hoot at owls, and even gaze into the inner workings of a live honeybee hive. An outdoor butterfly garden gives visitors the opportunity to see hummingbirds and butterflies! Fun for the entire family! Parents can encourage their children’s curiosity of animals and the natural world, thereby inspiring the next generation of naturalists, wildlife biologists, and veterinarians. Together with a sprawling 17 acres of ponds, streams, forests and walking trails, CSTL’s live animal exhibit has become a popular weekend destination for families on Long Island.
