TOP soccer teams play win, two ties

The Island Now

The Green team was very successful in team passing during the Seniors game.

The defense of Jefferson Yen, Tristan Yang and Harrison Stein defended their goal and moved the ball nicely up to midfielders Patrick Williams, Mary Glass and David Glass.  This trio kept their eyes on the ball and with pinpoint passing, had assists to Samuel Ho and Sebastian Gonzalez who scored for the offensively-minded team.

Not to be outdone, Red team midfielders James Fahey, Samantha Duggan, Andrea Mateo and Matthew Saraiva made some fantastic dribbling runs down the sidelines to set up their strikers Billy Russo, Justin Almonte and Stefanie Egre who scored for the Red team.  On display was excellent defending by Nickolas Mazariegos, Debbie Chin and Nicholas Marangoudakis.

It was another well played game by the Seniors and a very happy birthday to Matthew Saraiva.

Chris Corey was on fire today and scored the two goals for the Intermediate Green team.  Josh Hom and Sophocles Gianakis shared goal tending duties and both held their own in goal for the Green team. Sebastian Pinto gave the Green team much needed midfield and defensive support.

The Red team, however, was able to bounce back after being down by two goals.  Ashlyn Jurena scored the first goal, with an assist by her sister Annaliese Jurena.  Matthew Lausev tied the game in the closing minutes as Red team’s goalie Daniel Calabrese kept them in the match with his awesome saves.

In the Juniors match, the Red Apples’ Christopher Menendez tore up the soccer field scoring 2 quick goals.  He was so skilled that the referee had to send him up to the Intermediate game to give them some support.

Samuel Huang and his sister, Ariel Huang, played very well as midfielders with Brian Cisneros and Brian Lawrence on defense.

Red Apples goalie Brandon Cisneros kept the ball out of the net for most of the game.  Red Apples strikers Demetri Georgedakis and John Bertuccio had some fast breaks on the Green Leprechauns goal but Kyle Hanratty, playing defense, would run back and stop the shots on goal.  Kyle was a two-position player today since the Leprechauns were short a goalie.

Desmond O’Callaghan scored the first goal for the Green Leprechauns and James Sarro tied the game with a well-placed shot.

We saw excellent all-around play by David Cheung and Daniel Menendez.
