The Town of North Hempstead recently unveiled a brand new electronic kiosk at the North Hempstead Town Dock, located at 347 Main Street in Port Washington.
The kiosk is an internet-connected computer device that boasts a 37-inch diagonal screen, and puts information at the fingertips of boaters in order to enhance their overall experience at the dock and around town. Information available on the device includes:

“We expect this one of a kind electronic kiosk to enhance our commerce in the Port Washington area by allowing boaters and visitors alike to access information on a variety of local businesses at the single touch of a button,” said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman.
Other Town services provided for boaters include transient moorings in Manhasset Bay on a first come, first serve basis, which are free for up to a 48 hour stay, as well as seasonal moorings. There is also a launch service to and from moorings provided by Port Washington Water Taxi. Additional dock amenities include a dingy tie-up, free Wi-Fi internet, a pump out station from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days per week, and a pump out boat from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday through Monday.
To further enhance the boater experience, the town recently purchased a brand-new pump-out boat, using a $60,000 grant via the Clean Vessel Assistance Program.
The boat is 100 percent aluminum which increases its durability over the prior fiber-glass composition. This new vessel brings the number of pump-out boats the town currently operates for boaters at town dock to two.
The town is also approved under the CVAP program to purchase two more stationary pump-out units for Manorhaven Beach Park and North Hempstead Beach Park, in addition to the current one at town dock.
Under the CVAP-Operations and Maintenance Grant, the town is able to recoup up to $5,000 for each boat and $2,000 for each stationary unit, for a total of $16,000 annually.
“These pump-out boats and stationary units enhance convenience to our boaters while keeping our freshwater clean and sanitary,” Kaiman said. “The ability to acquire grants to help us purchase them provides further savings for the taxpayers.”
